Trump about Charlottesville – Fake News?

“The word ‘racism’ is like ketchup. It can be put on practically anything – and demanding evidence makes you a ‘racist.’” … Thomas Sowell. PHD, an African American author of 30 books.

The hate for Donald Trump continued this past week after his comments about the violence associated with the Robert E. Lee statue.  So, if you are feeling angry, stressed and unhappy about what is being reported about Mr. Trump’s Charlottesville comments, you will likely feel better after reading the following transcript of EXACTLY what Trump said.

If you don’t have time to read the entire transcript, here are key extracts of what Trump said.

1.“What about the alt-left that came charging at the – as you say, the alt-right?”. True! Both sides were weaponized. Both sides were violent.

2.“you had a group on one side that was bad, and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent, and nobody wants to say that, but I’ll say it right now. You had a group – you had a group on the other side that came charging in without a permit, and they were very, very violent.” True! The US first amendment guarantees free speech and the so-called alt-right had a permit while the other side was illegally protesting without a permit.

3.”I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were White Supremacists, by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue, Robert E. Lee.” True! Not all the people with the permit were armed and violent and some were there just to protest the intention to take down the statue.

4.QUESTION: Mr. President, are you putting what you’re calling the alt-left and white supremacists on the same moral plane?

TRUMP: “I’m not putting anybody on a moral plane. What I’m saying is this. You had a group on one side and you had a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs and it was vicious and it was horrible. And it was a horrible thing to watch.” True! Yet many many media fanned the anti-Trump flames say, as the Washington Post (see  )did saying “These comments suggest very strongly that the president of the United States sees moral equivalence between Nazis and those who oppose Nazis.”

5.“There were people in that rally, and I looked the night before. If you look, they were people protesting very quietly the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day, it looked like they had some rough, bad people – neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call them.” True!

Here’s what the Washington Post reported:

“Donald Trump on Tuesday afternoon gave the most disgusting public performance in the history of the American presidency. Framed by the vulgar excess of the lobby of Trump Tower, the president of the United States shook loose the constraints of his more decent-minded advisers and, speaking from his heart, defended white supremacists and by extension, their credos of hatred.  He equated with those thugs the courageous Americans who had gathered to stand up to the racism, anti-Semitism and doctrine of violence that won the cheers and Nazi salutes of the alt-right hordes to whom Trump felt such loyalty.”

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” …John Adams (the 2nd President of the United States (1797–1801) and the 1st Vice President (1789–97).)
